The Adventures of Tom Sawyer ((Abridged and Illustrated French Edition - Original title: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) is the first novel that Mark Twain wrote alone. It was published in 1876, first in England in June, then in the United States. United in December.
Mark Twain recounts the adventures of a boy from the southern United States, Tom Sawyer, around 1844, before the Civil War, in the fictional town of Saint-Petersburg, Missouri, on the right bank of the Mississippi. Partly autobiographical, the story is inspired, at least in its first chapters, by the author's childhood, spent in Hannibal, Missouri and recreated by fiction around the young protagonist whose personality dominates the novel.
